SALVADOR, BRAZIL- FEBRUARY 8: A young girl makes a phone call in a flavela or poor black neighborhood on the edge of Salvador, Brazil during the Carnival on February 8. Centuries of slave trade with Central and West Africa has left 40 million people of African descent in Brazil, concentrated particularly in and around the city of Salvador on the northeast coast. The Carnival in Salvador, which lasts one week in the month of February, is one of the largest manifestations of Afro-Brazilian dance and culture in Brazil. From mid day to the early hours of the morning- floats carrying musicians, each followed by a contingent of dancers come from poor black neighborhoods to the center of the city forming a snake like parade that turns the city into one large rhythmic festival filled with joy, sensualty and revelry.
